Hydraulic steering is the standard for safe, low-effort control on anything from a trailer boat to a commercial vessel. Boatgear stocks two complete hydraulic steering ranges in Auckland, HyDrive and Pretech SteerFlex, along with the helms, cylinders, hoses, fittings, seal kits and tie bars to go with them.
Complete hydraulic steering kits
A kit gives you everything needed for a single station install: helm pump, cylinder, hoses and fluid. Match the kit to the maximum rated horsepower of your engine rather than the power you usually run.

Pretech SteerFlex kits for outboards to 115, 175 and 350 HP, with full published specs and 5.2 to 5.6 turns lock to lock.
HyDrive kits for outboards and inboards, including multi-station and commercial builds.

Helms, cylinders and parts
We carry hydraulic helm pumps in front and mid mount, outboard bullhorn and inboard cylinders, factory crimped hoses, T-fittings, bleed valves, tie bars, hydraulic fluid and seal kits for repairs. If you are replacing one component rather than a whole system, ring us with the brand and part number and we will confirm what fits before you order.
One thing worth knowing: hydraulic steering brands are not freely interchangeable. HyDrive runs BSPT ports on semi-rigid nylon tube and specifies its own fluid, while SteerFlex uses 9/16″-24 UNEF ports on crimped hose. Stay within one system unless your installer has confirmed otherwise, and never mix hydraulic fluids.
