Description
Boatgear is proud to release the range of Tenob Tuff marine cables and terminals to the New Zealand market.
The requirements of marine electrical systems are quite different to automotive or domestic ones. It starts with quality cable which must be suitable for marine environments. But of equal importance are the connectors used.
The industry standard is the heatshrink connector. These work by inserting the correct length of stripped cable into the fitting and then crimping it in the same way as cheaper automotive connectors. After that they are heated with a hot air gun (a lighter can be used in an emergency repair situation) and as the heatshrink pulls down a glue sealant fills the space, creating a completely impervious connection when properly fitted.
Our range covers a wide selection of spade connectors. Various manufacturers and industries use alternative sizes of spade connectors (as do audio system speakers) so we have a number of sizes to choose from. These fittings are tinned and designed for the marine environment.
Please note that 5mm is the standard size used for marine fittings such as fuse boxes.
All our heatshrink connectors come in the standard recognised sizes/colours –
Red – for cables from 0.5mm2 to 1.5mm2
Blue – for cables from 1.5mm2 to 2.5mm2
Yellow – for cables from 4mm2 to 6mm2
Also please note that standard automotive crimp pliers can damage the outside of the fitting. We recommend that you purchase crimp pliers that are properly designed for use on heatshrink connectors.
